"It was a long difficult struggle to watch them decline,” says Carl Palmer. “He passed way in April of 2012."
Carl Palmer and his wife Denni are always busy.
They are the parents of five children, two biological and three adopted. They are both pastors and they both are very involved in the health issues of elderly parents living hundreds of miles away.
"Sometimes it gets the best of us,” says Palmer. “I'm not going to lie about that. Sometimes it becomes too much for one person to handle."
Out of the 77 million baby boomers in the United States, nearly a third, are in the same boat as the Palmers. They all have different stories but one commonality: stress.
"We are never made strong enough to do this on our own,” says Palmer.
Financial, physical and emotional demands can stress bodies and families, so it’s essential caregivers handle stress appropriately, which takes planning and organization.
Ignoring stress can lead to all sorts of health problems and diseases.
Make nutrition and exercise a priority everyday. It’s imperative to set time aside for yourself every week to refresh and restore.
Delegate tasks and don't forget to hydrate drinking lots of water and get plenty of sleep which allows your body to gear up for the rigors of the day ahead.
