Studies have shown those who suffer from Broken Heart Syndrome may go through a temporary heart condition with symptoms much like a heart attack, according to the Mayo Clinic.
They are so stressed over losing their love they suffer chest pains and shortness of breath, even dizziness. Doctors say the symptoms are often brought on by a surge of stress hormones.
The syndrome, in some cases, causes part of the heart to temporarily enlarge and not pump well, which in rare situations can cause serious consequences.
Medically the condition is referred to as stress-induced cardiomyopathy.
In most cases, broken heart syndrome is reversible, and treatable. Time heals all wounds. But doctors warn, a broken heart should always be taken seriously.
