It's a major undertaking for both the federal government and lawmakers here in Arkansas.
A lot of the work to prepare for the health care exchange has happened outside the capitol with the insurance department getting the word out through TV and radio.
But again, at least for today, the focus is back on lawmakers and the creation of a new committee.
It's the first new oversight committee since the creation of the state lottery four years ago.
Not surprisingly this first gathering of the health insurance marketplace oversight committee dealt with exactly how that's supposed to work.
Especially since more changes are expected to the healthcare law moving forward.
"This oversight committee has the specific task of overseeing the exchanges," St. Rep. Jeremy Gillam said. "That's why it's important its a separate committee to oversee this because of the nature of the healthcare business in general."
The new committee will also keep a close eye on how much and if money going to the new health exchanges this fall is being spent wisely.
