SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – On Sunday, May 4, 10 members from the Greene County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will deploy to Baxter Springs, KS., to help in a multi-county recovery task force.

"Specific mission assignments have not been made but could include a range of assistance like helping establish and manage volunteer and debris management systems to chain sawing and handling debris,” says Mark Burchfield, Emergency Management Specialist with the Springfield-Greene County Office of Emergency Management and Team Lead.

CERT is made up of citizen volunteer who train in the program learning basic first-aid, search and rescue, as well as other important skills, according to Burchfield.

In 2011, Greene County CERT deployed a team to Joplin to assist in search and rescue and the recovery effort.
