Former West Plains Police Chief to Serve as Interim Chief

WEST PLAINS, Mo. — Former West Plains Police Chief Charles Brotherton will serve as interim police chief starting May 9.

The West Plains City Council met in closed session on Monday, April 23 and voted unanimously to approve Brotherton as interim police chief starting May 9.

City officials say Brotherton will be interim chief for a period of 2-6 months while the city does a formal search for a chief of police.

Brotherton was named West Plains Police Chief in 2002, and left the position in 2014 when Jeff Head became chief. He remained on the force as a reserve officer and has been with the department in some capacity since the late 1980s.

Head will be retiring as police chief May 31.
