Former KOLR 10 Reporter at JCC at Time of Shooting
By KOLR10 News
JOHNSON COUNTY, Ks. -- Three people are dead after a shooting at two Jewish centers in Overland Park, Kansas.
The suspect is in custody, several network news organizations are reporting that the suspect is Frazier Glenn Cross, also known as Glenn Miller, from Aurora, Missouri.
Police say two men were killed outside the Jewish Community Center and a woman was killed a few minutes later in the parking garage of the Village Shalom Nursing Center.
The gunman shot at two other people but the bullets did not hit them.
Former KOLR 10 reporter Melissa Stern was headed inside the Jewish Community Center as shots rang out.
We spoke to her about what she witnessed and what happened inside the building.
“I'm walking into the building and I hear a loud noise and I duck and it sounded like something exploded. There's a lot of buildings so I guess the shots echoed. I see two guys running toward me so I start running too and I said are those gunshots and they say yes we just saw a man shoot someone.”
Stern says at that time she ran inside the JCC, “I said someone is shooting people in the parking lot, call 911, they put the whole place on lockdown. There were little girls in there crying. People were asking me to borrow my phone to call their parents. It was really scary. “
So far police aren't saying whether the shootings are anti-semitic hate crimes.
Frazier Glenn Cross is listed on the jail booking log on the Johnson County Kansas Sheriff's Office website. According to that website Cross is charged with premeditated murder in the first degree, he's being held without bond.
