Flu Cases Jump Six Percent Last Week

GREENE COUNTY, Mo. – Flu cases jumped only six percent last week, compared to a 20 percent increase the week prior, according to the Springfield-Greene County Health Department.

In week 18 of the counting flu season, a total of 143 flu cased were reported to the health department. Of those cases, 39 were in the age group of 25-49 years.

Out of the different types of influenza, 141 were influenza A strains, while two were Influenza B.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention categorized 41 states, including Missouri, as seeing widespread influenza activity.

Flu activity is expected to peak sometime in February, according to the health department.
