(Springfield, MO) -- There are only ten days left to add a little extra to your total at the grocery store to help out those in need.
Check Out Hunger, which benefits Ozarks Food Harvest, ends December 31, 2011. Sixty area grocery stores in approximately 40 communities are taking part.
The program allows grocery customers of participating stores to add $1 to their grocery tab, which will be donated directly to Ozarks Food Harvest.
The 60 grocery stores include: Akin's, Bistro Market, Country Mart, Dillon Stores, Harter House, Murfin's Market, Price Cutter, Ramey, Save-A-Lot, Smillie's, Smitty's, Summer Fresh and Woods Supermarket.
Check Out Hunger donations raised more than $27,000 in 2010. Since the campaign began in 1998, more than $172,000 has been donated.
Ozarks Food Harvest says there are nearly 180,000 people in 28 southwest Missouri who need help with food, and that one in four children in the area go hungry every day.
