SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Home building has long been a male-dominated industry, but women are increasingly taking charge.

Regina and Stan Gutshall are homebuilders. Regina is the president of the company, and Stan is vice-president.

Charlyce Ruth of the Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield says a growing number of women are entering construction and design programs.

"Oh, there's a lot of women out there that um, do even a better job than a man can do,” says Regina Gutshell. “And that's not to say that that's this situation. Yeah, I see a lot of women taking charge and getting more involved in construction and you know, making things happen."

"If they're good at it, they get the respect, but that's true for men, too,” says Stan Gutshell. “If they're not good at it, they're not going to get the respect of the subcontractors, contractors, so on so forth. So I think people can look past gender if they handle themselves professionally and they're knowledgeable."

Ruth also said more women are running the supplier and sub contractor side of construction.
