The Nikkei is up 4 points today in Tokyo.
The Dow dropped 50 points Friday.
The Nasdaq lost 12.
According to a report out from the University of Michigan/Thomson Reuters Index, consumer sentiment tumbled to a nine month low. The index fell more than two points to just above 79. Analysts had expected a higher number. They track sentiment levels to get an idea of how much consumers will spend.
Starting next month, Lehman Brothers will pay out more than $4 billion to unsecured creditors who lost money as a result of the company's bankruptcy in 2008. The company's failure marked the start of the global financial crisis and was a catalyst of the financial meltdown. Lehman will have paid out more than $110 billion after the distribution.
Al Gore is suing Al Jazeera America. The former vice president says the news network still owes millions of dollars as a result of buying Current TV from him and other shareholders last year. Gore's attorney says the Qatar owned news channel wants to give itself a discount on the purchase price that both parties agreed on. The channel went on air in the U.S. last August.
