On Wall Street, the Dow slid 135 points on the first trading day of the new year. It was the first time in 6 years stocks did not rise on the first trading day.
And the Nasdaq fell 33.
It's expected to be a quiet day on Wall Street. Many people are still on vacation from the Christmas and New Year's holidays and snowstorm in the northeast should keep many traders home.
Snapchat isn't saying much following a security breach that allowed hackers to collect the usernames and phone numbers of millions of users. Snapchat is a popular messaging app that lets users send each other photos that quickly disappear. Earlier this week, hackers published 4.6 million Snapchat usernames and phone numbers on a website which has since been suspended. The security breach came less than a week after security experts warned Snapchat that such an attack could take place.
And Walmart is recalling a five piece card table and chair set that has led to the amputation of at least one person's finger. Walmart says the Mainstays set can unexpectedly collapse and has resulted in nearly a dozen injuries including one finger amputation and three fingertip amputations.
Walmart sold about 73 thousand of the sets at its stores and online may through November of last year for about $50. Consumers are advised to stop using the set and return it to Walmart for a full refund.
