FAIR GROVE, Mo.-- The Fair Grove District Park Board will honor Jesse Highfill, an 11-year-old boy who tragically died in a boating accident, at a park dedication ceremony today, July 19.

The Fair Grove District Park Board and the Friends of the Park Foundation will dedicate the Jesse Highfill Memorial Soccer Field at a ceremony at 11 am at the soccer field at Fair Grove Park.

Jesse Highfill passed away in January 2011 after a tragic boating accident. The boy’s father Hubert Highfill, grandfather David Dixon, and great-uncle Doyle Cowin also died in the accident.

According to a press release, Highfill loved playing soccer. The 11-year-old's team was one of the first competitive soccer teams in Fair Grove. Highfill was also involved in efforts to have the sport officially added to the Fair Grove School System.
