STOCKTON, Mo. – The FBI is investigating death of a man whose body was found Sunday at Stockton Lake, but no identity is yet available.

FBI spokeswoman Bridget Patton said she had no other information to release beyond confirming that the agency was looking into it. The FBI was contacted because the body was found on federal land, she said.

Cedar County Chief Deputy Jason Johnson said the body was found about 4 p.m. by two walkers at Crabtree Cove. It was removed from the lake shore late Sunday and an autopsy was scheduled in Springfield at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

“There’s not a lot of information on this,” Johnson says. “What we have is an unknown male subject who had been there for two or three days.”

The sheriff’s department did not have any missing persons reports that would correlate to this incident.

"(The body) was at an area of an old fishing dock that the Corps (of Engineers) shut down a few years ago,” Johnson says.

According to Johnson, the body was in an area that had been paved. It was not fully on the bank, but not in the water.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the sheriff’s department at(417) 276-5133.
