Fayetteville Man Dies in Kayak Accident

FAYETTEVILLE, Ar.-- A Fayetteville man is dead after flipping his kayak in a river in Colorado Friday afternoon.

It happened in the Pine Creek Rapid section of the Arkansas River around 3 pm July 12. 

According to the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office, 40-year-old Johnathan Kennedy was wearing a personal flotation device and wearing a helmet when the accident happened.

Several boaters in the area tried to rescue him but were unsuccessful.

Once EMS arrived, they performed CPR.

Kennedy was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was a vice president at Northwest Arkansas Community Clinic in Bentonville and a kayak instructor.

He is survived by his wife and two young sons.
