AVA, Mo. - UPDATE (11:00 a.m.) -- Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase says his deputies are looking for two people of interest, in connection with the shooting death of a man late Thursday night.
Degase says his office was called about 11:00 p.m. by family members who found the man lying in the yard outside his home on Highway Z southwest of Seymour in northwest Douglas County.
Degase says when he got there, family members were performing CPR on Lance Terrill, 34. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Degase says at least two shots were also fired into the camp trailer where Terrill and his two young children were staying. Both children were inside at the time, but neither was injured.
Degase says he can not release many details of the investigation, but authorities believe they know who the two people are they want to talk to. He would not comment on the relationship between Terrill and the persons of interest and said investigators believe they know the motive, but are still working on to confirm it.
Terrill's two children are now being cared for by family, Degase said. Degase confirmed Terrill had a criminal history, and that the shooting may be connected to that in some way. "This was a targeted incident. I don't believe the general public is in danger," Degase said. And he encouraged anyone with information about the shooting to call his office at 417-683-1020.

Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase has scheduled a news conference for 10:30 a.m. today regarding an overnight fatal shooting south of Fordland.
Family members of Lance Terrill, 34, told KOLR10 News the father of two was shot dead outside the home of his parents on Douglas County Z.
Allen Nichols, Terrill’s uncle, said his sister and brother-in-law hear gunshots about 11:00 p.m. Thursday evening and found their son dead outside the home.
Terrill lived in a mobile home on his parents' property, Nichols said. His children, ages 4 and 6, were in the home at the time of the shooting, according to the family.
KOLR10 and OzarksFirst will provide more information from Degase after his 10:30 conference and as it becomes available.
