Facebook "Following Me" Post - is Untrue

A message is spreading across Facebook that has some people panicking about who might be following their every move on social media.
Is this is something you need to be worried about?

This is the post that's making the rounds:

It says that if you go to your list of blocked users under your privacy settings, and search "following me"-- you get a surprising list of strangers who are following you.       The post says "I had no clue who they were... i had to block them one at a time. creepy.. most were middle eastern. And all my posts are to friends, not public."

I'm going to walk you through what that message is talking about.
Click on your privacy shortcuts.
Then-- "how do i stop someone from bothering me?"
That opens up a window where you can search..
Type in "following me."
Sure enough-- it turns up a list of people.

This is my producer's profile-- and she doesn't know any of these accounts.

But that doesn't mean they're following you.

Searching for "following me" only brings up users associated with those words.
Those words might appear in their introductions, or any of the sections on their profile.

So we can verify that this is false.
If you follow the steps in that post-- you'll just wind up blocking people who weren't looking at your profile in the first place.
