SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—Ozark Technical Community College held a simulated mass casualty demonstration Feb.8.

Cox hospital medics and EMT’s in conjunction with OTC held a mass casualty learning event.

The two hour teaching session focused on how to be prepared to handle a chaotic environment. Students were exposed to a mock situation that mimicked what could happen during a bomb explosion with an active shooter.

The students were timed and evaluated by their peers on how they handled the situation.

The curriculum for the mock event was written by the student’s medical director, Dr. Matt Brandt.

The Situation Center coordinated the leaning space, mock victims wearing costumes and special effects make-up, and lights and sounds that would be conducive with a traumatic event.
