JOPLIN, Mo. -- The resumption of college classes is just a few short weeks away.  In Joplin, Missouri Southern State University is ready to welcome students back.

Dr. Alan Marble, MSSU President, says enrollment numbers are looking good and could be slightly up. He points out construction is well underway on two building projects and that the bidding process will soon start for the new baseball stadium. The fall semester will launch Southern's first stand alone graduate degree, a masters in education.

"Then the masters in accountancy coming along, and I know we're looking at a couple of other options. But certainly, we're still very focused on our undergraduate education," said Dr.  Marble.

Finances are still a concern with state restrictions shrinking this year's budget almost a million dollars. Dr. Marble is optimistic that funding will be released later this year.
