JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern State University Budget and Audit Committee adopted a spending plan for fiscal year 2015. The budget approved Monday night totals $77.1 million in expenditures. The committee plans on using part of the budget for new projects. That includes are new student housing and a baseball stadium.

"We see a very positive uptick. It's a deficit budget that we adopted but it is about half of the deficit that we've had for the 2014 budget, which is a big step forward for the university," said Mitch Mccumber, Budget and Audit Committee Chairman.

Also, the search for a new president of MSSU continues. The Presidential Search Committee met with the Board of Governors and has selected three semi-finalists for the position. Presidential Search Committee Co-Chair Sherry Buchanan says the committee has looked through almost 60 applications.

"We started actually in december with some focus groups. The committee then formed and took its charge from the board of governors in january," said Sherry Buchanan, Presidential Search Committee Co-Chair.

There will be an announcement Tuesday (June 3) regarding the search for the next president of MSSU.
