SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Research projects at Missouri State University have gotten a big boost this year, from a record number of grants.

The University said Wednesday its faculty and staff were awarded a total of $21.9 million in external grants.  That's an increase of 9-percent over last year.

289 grants have been awarded to MSU personnel, which helps pay for research and education projects.

The University says federal agencies continued to provide the greatest amount of funding for FY14, with an approximate total of $8.6 million, while state agencies supplied $4.9 million
