JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Statewide figures released Tuesday by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education show student scores on standardized tests are down in most subjects.

According to results from the 2014 Missouri Assessment Program (MAP), the statewide average rate of proficiency fell in English, mathematics and science, compared to scores from last year.

The only subject showing an improvement was social studies.

Several explanations for the decline offered, including the use of new test questions, school districts moving to higher state standards and missed school time due to severe winter weather.

District-specific test results are expected to be released on August 29.
