SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Underage drinking is a tough challenge for parents and groups that try to intervene with young people. Community Partnership of the Ozarks held a poster contest to raise awareness.

Three posters were chosen for the top spots out of 45 entries. Graphic design students from Missouri State, Drury and Evangel entered the contest.

The posters will be printed and placed throughout the community to get young people thinking before they choose to drink.

In Missouri, the starting age for alcohol use might surprise you.

"The average age for a first use of alcohol is sixth grade or age 12,” says Chris Davis, with Community Partnership of the Ozarks. “So by the time they get to college they're already seasoned drinkers."

Kellin Townsend of MSU, Janna Fezzi of MSU and Micha Willis of Drury were the artists behind the winning entries.
