Want to dine at home with an ex-Michelin chef? Care for dinner and a makeover with a makeup artist who also loves to cook? Want a traditional Puerto Rican feast with a native family? EatWith.com allows users to peruse offers in different cities based on cuisine, location, experience and price, and for about $38-$48 per person BYOB, tourists are eating it up.
The concept of localization has changed a lot over the past few years, from the initial idea of “local” being the 100 mile diet, to Small Business Saturday and the evolution that “everywhere is local somewhere.” But as local evolves, people are feeling less connected to the local communities that they claim to yearn for, which is in turn creating a new buzz around the idea of going to a new city to be with a local citizen. You can stay for a meal, get a tour, stay the night, anything that dramatically increases the local experience and blurs the line between tourist and native.
