JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- More than 30 conservation organizations announced their support for Governor Nixon's veto of legislation that would have changed the definition of deer.

Two bills would have made deer livestock, giving authority to the Department of Agriculture instead of the Department of Conservation.

Supporters of the bills say the Department of Conservation has proposed regulations that will put deer-raising farmers out of business.

Critics without these regulations say tere's a potential for increase of chronic wasting disease.

Lawmakers have said they plan to try to overturn the governor's vetoes.

These conservation organizations want the veto to stand.
