"We're just here to have a good time and to learn,” says Spangle the Clown. "We have teachers that are going to be giving instructions on how to do things throughout the week."
Clown Jam, held at the Stone Castle Hotel and Conference Center, will continue from Friday through the weekend with several different workshops from costuming to face painting and more.
"All the participants can learn about magic,” says D. J. Ehlert, co-producer of the event and magician.
Other workshops include Marketing for Dummies, storytelling and entertaining balloon sculptures.
Ehlert says the event offers participants the opportunity to fine tune their skills.
"All different variety arts coming together, people coming together, learning about not just how to perform and how to become better performers, but also how to use it,” says Ehlert.
Spangle the Clown, an instructor at the event, says the event is a fun time for all, but there is always a challenge.
“It's hard to try to get the last word,” says Spangle the Clown. “Everybody always wants to get the last pun, the last joke."
Ehlert says once you try a workshop, clowning around can become something you stick with.
“It's in your heart,” says Ehlert. “Some people are just afraid to try. But once you've tried it, you know right away. The people that come say 'I came here and I was just going to try it and I just fell in love.' And if you love it, it doesn't matter what you're talent level is, the talent will come if you love it enough."
