SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- Churches around the Ozarks held Good Friday services April 18.

The Central Assembly of God held its Service of Shadows Good Friday service. Readings in accompaniment with music tells the story of what Jesus went through.

The service of Tenebrae, meaning “darkness” or “shadows,” has been practiced by the church since medieval times. Once a service for the monastic community, Tenebrae later became an important part of the worship of commoners during Holy Week.

Good Friday is the day Christians believe Jesus died on the cross.
