Children Take Flight to Meet Santa at the North Pole

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (CBS) -- Christmas may be 23 days away, but, Saturday, children battling cancer took a trip to the North Pole to pay Santa a visit.

It's all part of the "Fantasy Flight" to the "North Pole" put together by United Airlines and the American Cancer Society to spread Christmas cheer.

Eyewitness News Reporter Adi Guajardo spoke with one family who's returning after a son was diagnosed with cancer.

'Twas a day full of laughs and smiles children bursting with joy.

As they boarded a magical flight to meet Santa including a three-year-old boy.

"He was dancing and he had his arms up when we were taking off," said the boy's mother.

Snowflakes and lights lit up the full flight route to the chilly North Pole with Alijah Wiser onboard.

Santa's elves handed out gifts and children spread holiday cheer.

They quickly unboarded knowing Santa was near.

Alijah is just one of the many fighting for his life, stage four Neuroblastoma, a rare cancer indeed, but he's not giving in.

"Now he has hair and just bubbly and we were all just on pins and needles that you know he had less than a 30 percent chance and look at him it's wonderful it's joyous."

The chemo and the treatment left behind for a winter wonderland.

Balloons, face painting and cookie galore, a day of adventures for more than two hundred boys and girls.

"This journey has been a battle and to other parents who are battling just keep fighting keep hoping and keep looking forward.

Although not everyone took the flight more than 200 loved ones and children attended the event.
