Chickens Star at Crane Broiler Festival

CRANE, Mo. -- It's the 66th year for the Crane Broiler Festival - as always the chickens were the star of the show.

People came from across the Midwest to enjoy what the festival had to offer including an arts and crafts show, bluegrass music, rides and a first for the festival: a car show.

The Broiler festival started in 1952 as a picnic for the community.

While sticking to its roots, it's been able to evolve into an entertainment destination.

The president of the festival says it takes a lot of work behind the scenes to get it up and running.

"It takes about 250 volunteers to put this event on and in a town of 1,500 people, 250 volunteers is a lot," Nathan Quick, president of the Crane Broiler Festival Association, said.

An estimated 6,000 broiler chickens were served during this year's event thanks to Tyson Foods.
