If you're caught shoplifting, the bond to get out of jail is now $300. If you're found guilty, the fine is now $250. Officers say they hope it will make people think twice before breaking the law.
"I definitely think the effort we're making to reduce larcenies is going to reduce them over a years time. The officers presence, the fine amount and bond amount being raised," said Lt. Josh Cahoon, Carthage Police Department.
Officers will also increase the patrols of popular stores to decrease crime.
