Bomb Threat Causes Republic High School to Evacuate

REPUBLIC, Mo. -- Republic High School has been evacuated because of a bomb threat towards the school Friday afternoon.

1,400 students and more than 100 staff members at Republic High School had to evacuate.

According to the Republic High School Director of Communications Josey McPhail, around 1:20 p.m. the school district was notified by authorities they received a threatening call. The school in response to the evacuations, say all students have been evacuated safely. Students getting picked up by parents will be in the softball field parking lot. The buses have left the school and will be getting students home as scheduled.

According to Republic Police, the threats were first sent to the Police department in Syracuse, New York of all places. Syracuse Police then alerted Republic Police back here in Missouri.

Republic Police Chief, Mike Lawton, says,  "With great assistance from the Republic School District and our partner agencies in Greene County the students and the staff were evacuated from the school real quickly probably with in less than 30 minutes. The 1,400 students and the 100 staff were really all gone before 1:30"

Police are still combing the area for explosive devices.
