Body Found Wednesday by Construction Crews Tentatively Identified

BATTLEFIELD, Mo. -- The man's body found Wednesday by road construction workers was identified Thursday likely as the 58-year-old reported missing in May.

According to a news release from the Greene County Sheriff, detectives tentatively identified the man as 58-year-old James E. Baldwin Jr.

An autopsy was conducted Thursday but authorities are waiting for positive identification from lab results which could take several weeks.

"We are working diligently to bring closure to this family," Sheriff Jim Arnott said.  "If anyone has any information about Mr. Baldwin's disappearance or his activities within the past 90 days, we encourage you to call 9-1-1 or the Greene County Sheriff's Office tip line at 417-829-6230."

Officials initially responded to South State Highway FF and West State Highway M after 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, after construction workers reported the body in a nearby wooded area.

It is not confirmed yet that the body found is the missing man. However, officials are tentatively identifying him as that man.

According to the Springfield Police Department, the circumstances around his disappearance seem suspicious.
