Birch Tree Man Indicted for Stealing Timber from Mark Twain National Forest

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- A Springfield jury indicted a man from Shannon County for illegally removing timber from Mark Twain National Forest in Oregon County.

John R. Marlow, 46, of Birch Tree, Mo., was indicted on three counts of stealing the timber worth more than $1,000 between January 1, 2016, and March 20, 2017, according to a news release.

Included in the charges are cutting and removing timber from public lands and maintaining a trial without authorization. 

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Casey Clark. It was investigated by the U.S. Forest Service, the Oregon County, Mo., Sheriff’s Department and the Alton, Mo., Police Department.
