The city will be borrowing approximately $1.8 million to refurbish Joe Becker Stadium. The team that is leasing the facility will reimburse the city paying about $150,000 a year. The new lease comes after a developer decided to no longer be a part of the project.
"The issue was that one of the developers who was included in the team management group originally has dropped out of the project, so they had to form a new entity. So we had the wrong entity name, so we simply redid the lease," said Brian Head, Joplin City Attorney.
The city will now be doing the improvements for Joe Becker Stadium directly, instead of reimbursing the developer.
