Baxter County Jail Inmate Attempts Escape

BAXTER COUNTY, Mo.-- A Baxter County jail inmate has acquired new charges after attempting to escape Mar. 14.

A approximately 6:45 pm on Mar. 14, Baxter County jail inmate Cody Wadkins, 25, of Bakersfield, attempted to scale the fence around the outside of the recreation area in the yard of the Detention Center.

Wadkins was already incarcerated awaiting trial following his arrest on Feb. 28 by the Mountain Home Police Department on charges of felony fleeing in a vehicle and other crimes.

He had been housed in the “C Pod” at the Detention Center, and he was allowed out into the recreation yard with other inmates for the standard one hour period.

Officials say that while on recreation yard call Wadkins scaled the chain link fence all the way to the top and became entangled in the razor wire at the top of the fence and sustained cuts and injuries.

He was later taken to Baxter Regional Medical Center for treatment and will be returned to the Detention Center afterwards.

Wadkins is being charged additionally with Third Degree Criminal Attempt to Commit Escape-- a Class D felony.

He will be held on this charge in lieu of $100,000 bond pending an appearance in Baxter County Circuit Court on Mar. 20.
