"Hey Shannon. My girlfriend's great-grandpa, the man she calls her hero, has cancer and it is progressing fast. Her grandpa is a strong man of God and my girlfriend is having a hard time with her relationship with God, which that makes it even worse. She keeps coming to me for help, but I don't know what to say to her. Can you please help me?"
"Hey Shannon, my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for about five months now. We know it can take a while to get pregnant, but my husband keeps "hinting" that maybe there is something wrong with me like my body. I haven't gone to the doctor to have myself checked out because I don't have insurance and I would be totally heartbroken if I can't have kids. My husband had a kid with another woman at a young age so he doesn't think it's him. How can make my husband see this subject really upsets me? What should our next step be?"
"Hey Shannon, I met a woman at work and we really hit it off. I've wanted to ask her out since I met her, unfortunately our office has a no dating policy. We have been hanging out as friends for about a year and spend a lot of time together. The other night she brought up wanting to start a relationship, but because of our job we can't. She is higher up in the company than I am so it makes sense for me to find another job. I care about her a lot, but am I crazy to consider making this big of a change for a possible relationship?"
"Hey Shannon, I am in my early 30s and single. I have a great career, friends, and family. The only thing missing in my life is someone to share it with. I have tried online dating and I’ve had friends set me up, but nothing seems to stick. I feel like I am forcing the whole dating thing, and want to get comfortable being single. How can I do that?"
"Hey Shannon, I have been with my girlfriend for a little over a year. I know she wants me to propose and with Valentine’s Day coming up I think she is expecting a ring. She's been dropping not-so-subtle hints since Christmas. I love her, but I am just not ready to take that next step. I don't want to disappoint her and I don't want to fight about it. I can see us getting married down the road but I want to make sure I am in my career and financially ready for that kind of commitment. How can I make her understand where I am coming from? Or is it time to buck up and buy a ring?"
"Hey Shannon, my girlfriend and I have been together for 14 years now and we don't do anything anymore. Is there a way to bring it back? She says it is her not me, but I feel like it is me. I am about ready to give up on the relationship. What can we do?"
"Hey Shannon, I met a guy a couple weeks ago and we really hit it off. We exchanged numbers, but he never calls or texts me. I saw him out this past Friday night, and he was very nice to me even wanted to hold my hand when he walked me to my car. I gave him a peck on the cheek when we said good night, but I haven't heard from him since. I texted him when I got home that night and he never responded. I don't want to seem desperate by texting again, but I really like this guy. What should I do?"
"Hey Shannon, I have been talking to this guy about seven months. At the beginning things were moving along very smoothly as they should, and then two months into it he moved away because he got a job position four hours away. We talk constantly and have made a few trips to see each other, but now I feel like he is not putting forth the effort to have a relationship. Every time I ask, ‘what is going on with us?’ he always implies that it's because of the distance and wants me to move there. I want to make this move but feel like I need a commitment of some kind before anything goes forward? Do you agree?"
"Hey Shannon, my husband started a new job about 6 months ago. He is having a very difficult time adjusting to his new boss, which makes him miserable, and almost every day I listen to him talk about how nasty, rude, and demeaning she is. I feel bad for him, but when he comes home, he sometimes takes his anger at his boss out on me. We started getting in fights for things that normally wouldn't be an issue. Ideally, he would just quit, but that's just not feasible right now because we can't afford for him to be unemployed and the available positions in his field are few and far between. Any ideas on how to deal with this?"
"Hey Shannon, my boyfriend and I have been together for several months now. We met through my best friend, who is married to his cousin. We spend most of our free time together and get along wonderfully. I met his mother about month ago and I thought it went very well, but last night I found out from my best friend that his mother was bad mouthing me to his extended family at a party over the weekend. I don't know what I did to upset her; I really care about her son and want it to work. Should I confront her about the situation?"
"Hey Shannon, I’ve been seeing a man for over a month and while I enjoy his company, I find nothing physically attractive about him. This is the second time we've dated and even though I find myself always going back to him, it always ends the same. He treats me like a princess and I want to make it work, but I wind up forcing it and hurting him in the end. Do I need to end it for good and if so can we still maintain a friendship?"
"Hey Shannon, both my parents have passed away in the past year. Now I need time to grieve. I don't want to be alone, just left alone. But my husband is constantly hugging me, stroking my back, and asking me if I'm doing okay. It's not helpful, just annoying. He's also starting to do the 'I need attention, too' thing. How can I convince him to give me space? I don't want to hurt his feelings, but then again, do I even need to worry about his feelings right now?"
"Hey Shannon, my sister married a man with two children from a previous marriage. Now that they're divorcing, my siblings and I seem to be losing a beloved niece and nephew, and my parents are losing two grandchildren we'd all like to stay in touch with the kids, but what's our proper place? Can we keep in contact with them? What about holiday and birthdays? Or should we just let go?"
"Hey Shannon, I recently had a baby and I’m about to go back to work, so my husband and I have been looking into daycare options. I'm having a hard time finding a place I like, and we don't have any family in town I feel comfortable leaving our daughter with. I have a very good job and my income could support our family on its own. When I suggested my husband quit his job and stay home with her we got into a big fight. I know he loves his job, but our family should be more important. Am I wrong to ask him to quit? Any suggestion on what we should do?"
Hey Shannon, it's been almost 6 years since I met my first boyfriend. Granted I've had a few after him, but I can't stop going back to him. Our families don't get along at all. When we date, I get bored of the relationship, or I don't feel that spark. But when we're not together, I just want to talk to him and be with him. Am I trying to hold onto a past that should just stay in the past, or am I afraid of commitment?
