Preparations Begin for Saturday's Cattle Baron's B
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- One thousand people will be wearing cowboy boots and jeans for a good cause this weekend.
Volunteers worked all day Thursday to transform dirt floor of the William H. Darr Agricultural Center into a space for a gala.
The fifth annual Cattle Baron's Ball is Saturday. The western-themed party raises money for the American Cancer Society.
The event will feature dinner, dancing, country music and auctions. If you ask anyone why they're helping out, they'll tell you it's personal.
"Most of us are volunteering because we have either lost someone to cancer or we ourselves have battled cancer," says volunteer Ginni Holley, "and all of us feel impassioned about the fact that we want to find a cure."
The Cattle Baron's Ball has raised more than $2 million for local cancer patients since the event started five years ago.
