Paula Deen says she is slowly rebuilding her career after last year's controversy over her previous use of a racial slur.
In an interview with People magazine, the celebrity chef compared her recent struggle with that of NFL hopeful Michael Sam.
Deen tells the magazine, "I feel like 'embattled' or 'disgraced' will always follow my name. It's like that black football player. He said 'I just want to be known as a football player. I don't want to be known as a gay football player.' I know exactly what he's saying."
Deen's efforts to turn her career around include plans to open a new restaurant in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Actress Leah Remini explains her departure from the Church of Scientology.
The former "King of Queens" star tells Buzzfeed there were numerous reasons she left - the top being her nine-year-old daughter, Sofia.
She says she lost a lot of friends because of the move but has now found spiritual guidance from her best friend, Jennifer Lopez.

Legendary game show host, Jim Lange, has died.
Lange hosted "The Dating Game" from 1965 until 1985.
He was 81-years-old.
