Chris the Critic from the Missouri Film Alliance joins us once again to dish on the latest and greatest box office hits and must-see movies.  This week, another summer blockbuster is out for the holiday weekend!

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES -  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film series.  Since the announcement of this film, it's had more changes and moves on its release date than just about any film I know of.   In 2009, Nickelodeon bought the rights to TMNT property and announced a release of a film in 2010.  Then, with some writing and producing staff changes, the film was pushed to Christmas 2013.  Wonder producer Michael Bay was brought on board and wanted to call the project NINJA TURTLES and wanted the turtles to be from an alien race … well, the FAN community lashed out.  After calming everyone down and a couple more date maneuvers, HERE we are here … TMNT on screens NOW!
INTO THE STORM -  Extras on this set did a couple of interesting things.  Between takes, they sang a lot to the actors that were wet and tired --- songs like COME SAIL AWAY by STYX.  Also, one of the stars, Scott Lawrence, was referred to as Obama for his massive resemblance to the President.
THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY -  Helen Mirren stars in the film about a celebrated French restaurant.  FACT:  food movies make me hungry every single time for WAY more than popcorn!

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY TOPPED the box office big time … $20 million AHEAD of projection!  I wish my bank account would do the very same J.   Guardians is very fun.  The cast of characters is excellent.  Chris Pratt has a career changing starring role in my opinion.  Bradley Cooper is fantastic as Rocket the Raccoon.  And, the soundtrack to the flick is something I want to own!
DIVERGENT - One of the year's BEST!  Before Shailene Woodley was making us cry in THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, she was rockin' on the the screen as Tris in this film.
NEED FOR SPEED - Aaron Paul is a street racer framed by a wealthy business man.  This ride is NOT any sort of FAST AND FURIOUS …it's actually annoying and embarrassing.
GOD IS NOT DEAD -  A college philosophy professor's curriculum is challenged by his new student, who believes God exists.

A GREAT Springfield tradition… the outdoor movies at Founders Park!  Tomorrow it's the Michael J. Fox classic, BACK TO THE FUTURE --- this week it's a little bit extra special --- There is a special "DRIVE-IN" movie screening during the BIRTHPLACE OF ROUTE 66 FESTIVAL at the Springfield Expo Center EAST field!  And, Saturday it's GROWNUPS.  This IS NOT a FAVORITE movie of mine at all … but, I do this it's cool that after the filming, Adam Sandler bought each of his main costars a maserati!  See for ALL the details and how to get free tix!  With FREE tix, my pick is ALWAYS going to be BOTH movies J.
